How We Serve: Shelter

Shelter programs

At Doors of Compassion, we believe that shelter is more than just a place to sleep—it’s a foundation for change. We operate three shelters in Durham Region and one in Kingston. Our shelters provide safe, low-barrier emergency housing for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Rooted in compassion, dignity, and respect, our trauma-informed approach ensures that every person who walks through our doors is met with support and understanding. Clients receive personalized advocacy to help them transition out of homelessness and into stable housing. Once housed, our Housing Retention Team continues to provide holistic support, helping individuals maintain long-term housing stability.

For shelter intake and bed availability, please contact our team between 8:00 AM – 11:00 PM. Contact details can be found on our Contact Us page.

HARRT Program:

The Housing Attainment, Relations, and Retention Team (HARRT) is dedicated to helping individuals transition from homelessness to housing—and stay housed. HARRT provides housing-focused case management, connecting clients with essential resources such as rental assistance, landlord mediation, and life skills support. Our team works alongside clients to create personalized housing plans, address barriers to stability, and offer ongoing support after move-in. By focusing on long-term success, HARRT helps break the cycle of homelessness and build brighter futures.
